Studio Design for FORTIS Powered by Speedflex

Studio Objective:

Create a space that appeals to a wide demographic from Gen Z fitness aficionados to new exercisers and 60+ groupX fans.  The Speedflex workout concept is uniquely inclusive meaning the complete beginners can join the same class as elite athletes and everyone can workout to their maximum, so creating an inclusive vibe was front of mind throughout.

“The goal was to create a contemporary studio design but without going down the usual route of the dark-disco feel, popular with many boutique gyms. Everyone Active has an extremely wide member demographic so we needed to create a space which would appeal to everyone. We decided that a gold colour and lighting scheme, would allow us to create a cutting edge design whilst retaining a warm and welcoming feel.”  Cheryl Hersey

Design, Lighting and AV:

A textured brick effect wall was installed and painted matt black, a neon style LED sign was added to the centre displaying the concept strapline, HIIT Without the Hurt. Steam punk matt black down lights were installed to bring out the texture of the wall.

The ceiling was painted matt black and 2700 Kelvin lights were installed with a matt black textured bezel and gold reflector to achieve a warm gold effect.

A gold feature wall was painted in the FORTIS brand colour to add to the warm and inclusive look and feel, whilst another wall was painted white to reflect light back into the room.

To further enhance the warm gold effect four DMX controllable blinders – stage quality spotlights – were installed in the corners of the room.

A state-of-the-art 2.5 pitch, LED video wall was provided by TP8C. At 2.56 x 1.44m it was designed to fill almost the entire wall and provide high quality visuals including data from a MYZONE console.  Four matt black speakers were installed in the corners of the room to complete the AV set up.

FORTIS Powered by Speedflex branding, which was created by Action Head of Design and Web, Sophie, was added to all items of small equipment including Kettlebells, Powerbags and Slam Balls.  Premium suspension training equipment was provided by Auster and co-branded with the FORTIS logo.  Finally, branded floor mats provided the studio with even more gold accents.

The logo was also set within the rubber roll flooring and spot-lit from above.

Outside the studio another textured brick effect wall was installed to help the studio stand out and feel very different to the rest of the leisure centre.  Two FORTIS Icons were positioned either side of the double doors and a selfie wall was created to encourage social media moments.
